Hungry Horse

This is the view from the top of the dam.  Crazy low water level, but still a very impressive dam.

Love this sign.

We found a little day use area and hauled the kayaks to the lake.  The boys brought their paddles down, quidditch style.

Operation Swim Ruby was a go.

The boys immediately asked if they could kayak across the bay.  YES! That's why we're here.

Ruby is not very photogenic, if you say her name to get her attention she comes running over.  But she's a pretty girl and I want some pictures of her sitting still.

After first lunch, the wind died down enough to want to swim and snorkel.  Mike and I tried out the snorkels while the boys were out kayaking, and so the boys decided it was their turn.

Gotta love snorkel face

The water was pretty shallow, which was ok because they were pretty timid to swim around where they couldn't touch.

I could tell Luke wanted to keep snorkeling, so I asked him if he wanted to swim out to where we couldn't see the bottom. He said Thumbs Up!

And we took off like this, with Luke hanging on to my shoulder.

Pretty soon he had his whole arm around my back.  Love this boy.
We decided to have a fire to warm up and have second lunch.  We have never seen fire barrels this high, but they served a great purpose.  We stood around and roasted our brats without chairs.  Handy!
We headed back to camp and took a quick and wonderful detour to Glacier Distillery for some whisky tasting.  I had a version of a Caesar made with jalapeño infused whisky.  It came with a  beef stick, which I loved.

Mike had a smaller of 4 whiskies, and ended up loving them.

It was a cool little place, lots of fun decorations and do-dads

It even had Red Jammer Root Beer for the boys to enjoy.

After that long, taxing day (ha ha) we had our daily ice cream back at the KOA.  Huckleberry is best.
